TODDLERS across East Lancashire will benefit from a share of an £8million cash boost to provide new nursery places.
The government cash and lottery funding will mean that an extra 6,170 nursery school and out-of-school childcare places could be available throughout the county over the next three years for children who are disadvantaged or who live in rural areas.
The money is part of £60 million funding for nursery places across the North West announced by Education and Employment Minister Margaret Hodge.
She said: "Too many families have no access to quality childcare because they live in disadvantaged areas, including rural areas. This has to end."
Blackburn with Darwen will get an extra £2million while Lancashire County Council will have access to more than £6.4million.
It is hoped the funding will help create 385 nursery and out-of-school childcare places in Blackburn with Darwen, and 5,785 places in Lancashire.
