POLICE investigating reports of an early morning disturbance at a house in Burnley later found a man in a back street suffering from a stab wound.

Liam Darcy, 31, who was said to have lost a lot of blood from a wound to the top of a leg, was taken to Burnley General Hospital where he has been detained. The injury is described as serious but not life threatening.

Det Sgt Steve Mounsey said that at 12.30am police attended an address in Cowper Street following reports of a disturbance.

They found what appeared to be bloodstains inside the property. Mr Darcy was found a short time later in Jockey Street.

DS Mounsey said: "We are making inquiries into the incident. At this stage we do not know what is behind it."

A 28-year-old man was arrested at the address in Cowper Street and was today being questioned.
