CHINESE match-winner Zhang Enhua saved his best performance so far for the Clarets, according to Grimsby boss Lennie Lawrence.

The 27-year-old international captain, who can only speak a little English, has been on loan at Blundell Park since December and will return to China for the World Cup training camp in April.

And the defender capped his 'best' performance with his first goal in English football, heading home a Menno Willems cross in the 55th minute.

"That's the best he played for us and if he plays like that for the next two months, I will be well pleased," said Lawrence, who knows the centre back will be too expensive to buy once his loan spell is up.

"His wife had their first baby on Monday and he's missed a couple of days training. That's ominous he could want more days off but he won't get them!

"It was a good goal, from a set piece but Zhang is used by China in a lot of their set pieces.

"His aim is to get into the Premier League, and he's not far off on this evidence. If he does well for us he may get that move but he will be too much money for us."

Lawrence had to reshuffle his pack early on after midfielder Wayne Burnett left the field after just six minutes when he clashed heads with Graham Branch. Stacey Coldicott came on and played a big part in the midfield battles.

"Wayne had a bump and stitches in his head. He wanted to come out and play on but I took the decision to put Stacey on and he's worked hard. It was good as we're going to need all our players for the rest of the season.

"I had to change our shape once or twice and we hanging on at the end but I was pleased with or determination."

The three points were vital as Lawrence, manager of Clarets players Steve Davis and Mitchell Thomas in his days at Luton, aims to lead Grimsby clear of the relegation fight.

"It was a big result for us, especially with Crewe and QPR winning.

"It was a big three points, a big day for us. We looked strong and fit and there was a will and desire to win there for all to see."

He continued: "I thought it was a good game, it was end to end, good for the supporters but not for the managers!

"There were a lot of chances for both sides and if it had finished 0-0, I would have taken a lot of positives from the game.

"But obviously I'm delighted with the win.

"Burnley are a big, strong side and Stan has done a good job. Look where they have come in two years.

"I'm sure if someone had said they would have had 42 points from 30 games at the start of the season, they'd have been happy. I would take that!"
