REGARDING your article (LET, January 27), about Burnley councillors deciding not to sell a bottled gas firm extra land to build a new headquarters, the residents of Briercliffe have been accused of launching a hostile campaign against Alta Gas. On what facts have you based that accusation?
Maybe if your reporters had come to our public meetings they would have learned the same facts that the councillors used in their decision to back the residents.
All the councillors concerned put a lot of time and effort into the investigation of the claims put forward by residents.
The residents have not mounted a personal vendetta against Alta Gas in particular. It is simply a case that any LPG plant should not be close to houses and schoolsThis decision was not political -- it was agreed by all parties involved that politics be completely set aside. How refreshing that members of all parties can unite and agree what is best for the people they represent.
MRS ELSA UTTLEY, Musty Haulgh Farm, Briercliffe, Burnley.
