IN your article "Razor horror in crime rat-run" (LET, January 26), a spokeswoman for Blackburn with Darwen Council said the planning and highways committee had voted on December 2, not to close the problem ginnel between Ernlouen Close and Queensway.
This statement does not explain that the Conservative councillors on that committee voted with the wishes of the petitioners and residents of the area to close this ginnel which has caused heartache and been a serious cause for concern for a good many years.
Conservative councillors have two constructive alternatives to offer if council officers will meet us and local residents in the near future.
But, make no mistake, if we win control of the council in May -- which is not most likely -- a solution will be found at a very early date to see if an alternative to closure can be found.
But, if the people want it closed, it will be closed.
Councillors EDDIE HARRISON and ALAN JONES and prospective candidate PAUL McGURTY (Meadowhead Ward, Blackburn with Darwen Council).
