Featherstone Rovers 20, Leigh Centurions 30: SIMON Baldwin helped Leigh maintain their perfect start to the season.
The strong running second rower is currently in the best form of his life and he capped a tremendous second half display by scoring a 50th minute try and setting up another for Andy Fairclough just two minutes later.
The double whammy knocked the heart out of third placed, but injury-hit Rovers, who pushed the Centurions all the way before the Hilton Park side collected their 11th straight win to head the Northern Ford Premiership by three points.
Stand-off Simon Svabic, full-back Neil Turley, Aussie back rower Adam Bristow and prop Dave Bradbury all made outstanding contributions.
Svabic landed five goals from six shots while Turley swept in for his 20th try of the season - a new record for a Leigh full-back.
Bristow was magnificent in attack and defence while Bradbury's midfield drives helped Leigh get a firm foothold on the game early on.
Featherstone threatened an upset when they led 10-6 midway through the first half, but eventually they were overpowered. Two tries in the final seven minutes from Richard Chapman and Stephen Jones flattered Rovers slightly.
Both sides had gone close early on before Leigh broke the deadlock in the 18th minute in stunning fashion. Bristow's long, flat pass put Svabic clear on half way and with Fairclough in support, Leigh fashioned a 50-metre move that ended with Turley strolling in for a 6-0 lead.
Rovers replied three minutes later when winger Matt Bramald got in at the corner and not long afterwards Chris Spurr intercepted Svabic's attempted long pass and raced half the length of the field to put Leigh behind 10-6.
Three minutes from half time Leigh regained the lead they were never to lose again when Phil Kendrick exchanged passes Dave Ingram to score at the corner. Svabic converted off the touchline.
Neil Lowe and Danny Evans both gave Leigh scares at the start of the second half but when the Centurions struck with their double strike, the game was effectively over.
Tim Street smuggled out a magnificent pass for Baldwin to blast clean through and when the second rower again split the Rovers cover, Fairclough supported on his inside to scramble over.
Leigh were coasting home at 30-10 when Chris Morley galloped in for his first try in Leigh colours but they did see their winning margin halved by Rovers' late fightback.
