MEMBERS of a luncheon club have splashed out on a new microwave after receiving a £200 cash boost.

Haslingden Luncheon Club, which meets every Wednesday at the Public Hall, was awarded the community chest grant by the Action for Haslingden Partnership.

Mary Lynch and Councillor Mollie Disley set the club up five years ago and said it has become so successful there is a permanent waiting list.

Two chefs and eight assistants, who are all volunteers, prepare and cook for 66 regular members.

Mary said: "A microwave oven is a quick and convenient way of preparing small amounts or re-heating a meal if a member arrives late.

"As we share the kitchen with other groups we've promised that they can use it too -- as long as they keep it clean."
