Bold Miners 24 Saddleworth A 12

BOLD were made to work hard to beat a Saddleworth side bolstered by the inclusion of half-a-dozen first team players.

The visitors scored first when their left centre broke out of two tackles to touch down wide out, but Bold replied with a strong run from Wes Singleton resulting in a try for Chris Keane, converted by Darren Anders

Good defence, with Ste Dumphy and Mark Saunders prominent, kept Saddleworth out and just before half-time Darren Anders sent Paul Rigby crashing in under the posts. Anders converted to make it 12-6.

Playing down the slope, Bold dominated the second half with Singleton and Ian Honey punching holes in the Saddleworth defence.

Honey was next to score, breaking away for a try converted by Darren Anders. Then Singleton went over, following a 60-yard break by centre Chris Burgess, with Anders completing the home total with his fourth goal.

Saddleworth grabbed a late consolation try.

The Grundy Excavations man-of-the-match for Bold went to Singleton, with Dumphy, Burgess, Saunders and Neil Killshaw also playing well.
