WAS Clare's clogshop the last in St Helens? Well, that's the overwhelming view of many local folk, responding to that particular theme, recently running through this page.
Reader K. Bloomfield of Sherbourne Road, Blackpool, pops up with a few more possible candidates and believes the brother of a former Mayor of St Helens was among those who banged on the old clog irons. His name was Burrows, who shared clog custom with a chap named Tunstall, down Owen Street, Thatto Heath.
Another clogger from the 1940s, named Watkinson, had a shop on Lugsmore Lane-Whittle Street corner.
