MATCH-WINNER Glen Little reckons Burnley's victory over table topping Fulham last night was largely thanks to new boy Gareth Taylor.

The Clarets upset the odds by becoming only the fourth team to beat the Premiership-bound Cottagers in the league thanks to Ian Moore's equaliser and Little's late show.

But the winger is keen to point out that the arrival of Taylor, on a month's loan from Manchester City, has helped to restore some confidence in the Clarets camp following their disappointing run of eight defeats in the last ten games before last night's glorious win.

"I think Gareth Taylor has made a difference," admitted Little who latched onto Ian Moore's through ball to fire home the winner two minutes from time.

"He has been brought in to do a job, to get on the end of crosses and that's what he did.

"He got on the end of Mitchell's cross, he's at the back post with a header and Mooro's knocked it in for the equaliser.

"At Grimsby and Crewe, crosses were going in but there was no one to get on the end of them.

"Hopefully Gareth has been brought in to do that and I'd like to think he can keep doing it.

"He's only here for a month but maybe it could be longer."

Manager Stan Ternent was similarly impressed by his debutant, but is waiting to see how the month pans out before making any decisions on Taylor who cost City £400,000 from Sheffield United in 1998.

"It was a fantastic debut. The lad has played extremely well.

"We now have competition for places at the club and we are getting better."

And a visibly relieved Ternent also had praise for his match-winner.

"At the end, Glen's gone through and done what only Glen can after a fantastic pass by Ian Moore. Blakey slotted it away beautifully.

"It is a very welcome three points. It does a lot for confidence if you beat the best side in the division and beat them fair and square."

And Ternent said the noise by the 15,000 plus fans -- who were vocal throughout -- was reminiscent of the Clarets glory days.

"The fans and the noise they made reminded me of the 1960s.

"It was fanastic but to be fair we gave them a lot to shout about.

"That is the difference they can make and I'm sure if you ask the players they will tell you it gave them a fantastic lift."

And headline-maker Little had the final word.

"It was my first goal of the season and it was a great time to get it against the best team in the division. I don't get many, especially with my left foot!

"The win probably was unexpected but we have good spirit in the camp and are battlers.

"Now we've got to do the same again against Huddersfield on Saturday!" FROM BACK
