An early second half strike from Lee Webb wasn't enough to lift the side and they crashed to their fifth league defeat of the season.

Gary Bickerstaffe put the visitors in front in the 13th minute. A poor clearance from a long throw came out to Bickerstaffe, whose shot rebounded off the post onto the head of diving keeper Lee Purvis and into the net.

Just 10 minutes later Neil Smith added a second after picking the ball up in midfield and taking it past three Darwen players and around Purvis to double the lead.

And two minutes later Darwen were dead and buried when Karl Jones chipped Purvis from 35 yards after a missed tackle from Jimmy Khan.

Two minutes after the break a long ball from Andy Walsh fell to Webb, who stuck it in for a consolation.
