A CHAMPION motor cycle road-racer is appealing for sponsors to help him bridge the gap between club level and national level this season.

Haydock-based John Carroll has won a number of titles in recent seasons, including the Darley Moor 125cc Championship and the Derby Phoenix Crown..

This year though the 28-year-old is stepping up to the MRO National Grand Prix Championship and he is hoping to attract financial support from local businesses and individuals.

Beginning in March, this season's competition will be financially demanding for John, who also works full time as a double glazing expert.

He said: "I'm looking either for a number of small sponsors or perhaps one big sponsor to help ease the financial burden.

"In particular, I really need sponsors for fuel and tyres, but the national competition will provide me with far greater media coverage, both in the press and on television, which, in turn, would result in national exposure for any sponsors".

John also paid tribute to current sponsors Al Gibbon, who is providing transport funding, and Peter McMullen from 'Just Scooters' of Haydock for their invaluable help and contributions.
