POLICE are urging people to be aware of the dangers of handling stolen property.
The warning follows the theft from local retail outlets of a large quantity of fireplaces and surrounds, some of which are known to have later been sold in the Parr and Sutton areas.
Officers are reminding members of the public that buying stolen goods can lead to a prison sentence. Also, under the Crime and Disorder Act, a council tenant found in possession of stolen property could be evicted.
Anyone with information can telephone 0151 777 6064 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
