ST HELENS Council is looking for more people to offer long-term care to youngsters between eight and 16. A council spokesperson said: "Most children in care over the age of eight will spend the rest of their childhood in a children's home.
"They may never know the love and security of family life and grow up alone and vulnerable.
"One 16 year old girl living in a local home recently described her situation, saying: 'I'm going to leave here soon and who have I got? Nobody."
"Would-be carers can be married, divorced, single or living with a partner. They can be unemployed or working full time and there is no age limit.
"But, experience of caring for children is important. This can include bringing up a family, but does not mean they have to have children of their own."
