TWO new school crossing patrols are now operational in St Helens.
The newly-installed crossings have been provided outside Hurst School, Hard Lane and at Ellamsbridge Road, Sutton, following campaigns by ward councillors and residents, supported by teachers and school governors. Residents also raised the need for the crossings at local area forum meetings.
Welcoming the additional school crossings, Councillor Terry Hanley, Portfolio Member for Environmental Protection, said: "The safety of children in St Helens is a priority. With this in mind the council is working with other local authorities to launch a campaign in May to promote awareness of school crossing patrol sites and to alert drivers to their responsibilities in a bid to further improve safety,"
Lollipop men and women are now able to help people of any age to cross the road safely following a change in the law.
