A MUSICAL lass who hails from Leyland is set to use her passion for music to raise money for charity.
Talented Jane Maudsley, 22, will join the acclaimed Morecambe Band later this year to perform Last Night of the Proms at her former school in Blackburn.
As well as the traditional 'Last Night' repertoire the mezzo-soprano (pictured) will perform Carmen, Samson and Dalilah and Gerschwin favourites on the night.
Money raised will go toward The Children's Society -- a charity that aims to help thousands of children and young people and their families in more than 90 projects in England and Wales.
And to help rake in even more cash Jane is planning to compete in this year's Flora London Marathon after losing two stone last year. The charity champ hopes to raise more than £1,000 from both charity events.
Jane, who lived in Lancaster Lane, Leyland, for 15 years, attended dance classes at Sandham Fitchett School of Dance, in Preston, and took piano lessons since the age of three.
She studied music at the University of Sheffield and graduated last year. Now she plans to continue her studies at The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in September where she will study for a postgraduate PGDip(Perormance) qualification. Jane said: "I want the concert to be a real success and to be enjoyed by all while at the same time raising money for the charity.
"The Morecambe Band are going to be presenting the concert alongside myself. They are a highly acclaimed brass band and I am thrilled that they are giving their support to the event. Their expertise and talent will maker this concert a really entertaining night out.
"The concert is taking place a week after the marathon which is quite a relief as I am sure I will need that time to recover from the challenge of 26.2 miles.
"I have been training very hard for the race. I have never run seriously before just the odd couple of miles on the treadmill to get in shape. Having lost two stone last year I wanted to improve my fitness and I have been lucky to gain a place in one of the most sort after sporting events."
Tickets and enquiries about the concert are available on 01254 854288.
