LANCASTER councillors will consider a planning application for yet another new city centre pub.
But a well known Morecambe venue may fail in its bid to win a new public entertainment licence.
Soljam Co. Uk has applied for planning permission to convert shops at 32-34 New Street into a public house and restaurant.
But police are opposing a bid by the owner of Baroque, on Marine Road in Morecambe.
The club, formerly known as Pacha's, has not had a licence since April 1 last year, but a new application has been made to open from 11am to 11pm on Mondays and Tuesdays, 11am to 2am from Wednesdays to Saturdays and 12noon to 10.30pm on Sundays.
But the police fear a late licence will lead to an increase in crime and disorder, an additional demand on police resources and annoyance to local residents.
Members of the council's licensing sub-committee will consider the application at a meeting next Monday.
