MORECAMBE'S Platform has released its new Spring/Summer brochure revealing a wide and exciting programme of quality events taking place at the seaside venue over the next six months.

Just three days after the brochure was first distributed, the Platform announced its first sell-out show. All tickets for the visit of The Royal National Theatre's production of A Midsummer Nights Dream on April 9 have already been snapped up.

Platform Manager Kirk Worley said: "The response so far has been tremendous, apart from The National Theatre, a number of other shows are already close to selling out including The Houghton Weavers, The Dubliners and Kate Rusby. If people do want to see these performances by very popular artists they really should buy their tickets now."

The Platform brochure should contain something for everyone. There is as always a strong folk line-up with shows from excellent artists such as John Tams.., Fairport Convention, Plainsong and Bert Jansch along with a strong comedy cast including Tommy Tiernan, Dave Gorman and Simon Munnery - all currently starring in their own television series.

Other highlights include a first visit from York rockers Shed Seven and an evening with wild and wonderful Julian Cope, a classical concert of some class with the Three Irish Sopranos and the visit of no less than three bands from Africa.

Over the past couple of years, the countries top tribute bands have proved very popular at the Platform and this year will be no exception with dates booked for The Corrz, Gunz and Rozez, Moletallica, Run To You (the top Bryan Adams tribute) and Talon - The Best of the Eagles. A very interesting night should be had in the company of The Muffin Men - playing the music of the rock genius Frank Zappa in a band that includes Zappa's original drummer Jimmy Carl Black.

Other highlights include a return visit from The Blues Band and a first ever stage adaptation of Bill Bryson's best selling travel diaries - Notes From A Small Island.

Along with a whole host of community events, lunchtime concerts, workshops, family discovery shows with the RSPB and a Childrens Easter Festival plus much more it certainly is going to be a busy time at the Platform this spring.
