MOTORISTS were surprised to come face-to-face with around 15 pigs' heads, believed to have fallen off the back of a wagon as it negotiated a recently constructed- roundabout.
Clitheroe police were inundated with calls from drivers on the A59 near Barrow who had come across the gruesome sight, the first report being just after 6pm last night.
A spokesperson for Clitheroe police said: "Calls were coming in from people who were not sure if what they had seen was correct.
"Initial reports were that there was at least one on the carriageway and the rest in the grass.
"However, it seems that someone has come along and decided to rearrange some of the heads so they were lined up staring at motorists."
The spokesperson added that what made the situation more bizarre came around 40 minutes after the first siting of the pigs' heads.
"We received a call that a dog at the same spot had shot under a car which then stopped.
"When the driver looked to see if it was all right, it shot out and ran under another car, refusing to come out and snapping and snarling at people.
"It then ran off up the by-pass seemingly unhurt."
The police said that finds of this nature were passed on to environmental health contractors for removal.
