LYTHAM Chess Club first team battled bravely against the strong Morecambe team in Division A of the league, only to lose 3-2.
Four draws were achieved by Peter Jowett, John Cooper, Leo Ainsworth and Phil Raynor.
The fourth team lost their Division C match to Bispham seconds by 2-1 with Kevin Thomas winning and Pat Coleman drawing. The fifths beat their Division C opponents Cleveleys seconds by 2-1 with wins for Keith Sansom and Geoff Robinson and a draw for Charles Cooper.
The thirds beat Poulton seconds in Division B by 2-1. Leo Ainsworth winning spectacularly and John Regan narrowly, while acting captain David Dawber settled for a draw to collect the match points.
The thirds were quickly back in action for a rearranged game versus Rossall School. Darren Jones and Pat Coleman won and David Dawber again sealed the match with yet another draw!
