Halton Sims Cross A 36 Blackpool Scorpions A 12 SCORPIONS were still in their cars for most of an extremely poor first half performance which saw the home side run in 24 unanswered points.
They allowed the opposition half backs to run them around and paid dearly for constant handling errors and the conceding of penalties.
But you could be forgiven for thinking a different side had come out for the second half. Two excellent tries and all the field position and possession meant it was not a disastrous afternoon for the visitors.
First, three passes between prop Steve Woodburn and loose forward Neil Gavaghan sent the big man Woodburn in under the posts.
Then a good short ball from Gavaghan sent Simon Pritchard through a gap, he passed to Paul Atkinson, who in turn passed to Danny Webster who raced in under the posts. Webster converted both tries to cap a very impressive second half for the Scorpions. North West Counties Youth Cup: Scorpions 1 Woolston 42
THE Scorpions took a brief lead from a drop goal by Gareth Skelton in the first minute. But Blackpool struggled to cope with the pace of the team who are two divisions higher than them. The Warrington side pulled away to lead 28-1 at half-time. Scorpions put up a much improved performance in the second half and had a 20 minute period when they did all the pressing but unfortunately had two tries disallowed. Woolston hit back with three tries in the last five minutes.
