Whitby 1 Lancaster 5

ANOTHER impressive brace from red-hot striker Chris Ward helped Lancaster City continue their climb up the Unibond league table.

The Dolly Blues are up to fourth place in the table after showing the resilience and quality which has made the teams around them sit up and notice.

Tony Hesketh's side had to come from behind though, with Whitby striker Lee Ludlow slotting home in the 11th minute.

Recent signing Colin Potts created City's equaliser 20 minutes later, with a cross which found Ward at the far post.

And Ward put City ahead just before the half time whistle, intelligently latching on to a poor back pass before rounding home keeper David Campbell to slot home.

The second half proved that City are about more than just their 31-goal teenage whizkid, however, as Ward was taken off with an injury early in the half.

A penalty on 68 minutes gave City their third. Midfielder Kenny Mayers took advantage of David Goodchild's handball.

Colin Potts was again the creator with 15 minutes left, mesmerising the Whitby defence and laying the ball off to Brian Welch. The former Accrington Stanley striker made no mistake.

Potts deservedly grabbed number five in the dying seconds with a powerful shot to cap a splendid all round performance.

City are buzzing at the moment, and were due to take on another in-form side, Bishop Auckland, last night.
