A BODY pulled from a Radcliffe reservoir on Friday (Feb 16) is that of missing Bury man Zbigniew Lazurek.
The 50-year-old disappeared from his Peers Street home on January 18. A note was left behind indicating he would drown himself and a quantity of prescribed morphine, used by Bury-born Mr Lazurek, was also missing.
Extensive searches by police divers of local lodges and lakes, plus foot patrols covering open ground and woodland around his home proved fruitless.
However, a member of the public spotted a body in Withins Reservoir on Friday morning and alerted the emergency services.
The police underwater search unit was called in to recover the body which was formally identified following a post mortem on Saturday.
It is believed his body, which was weighted down, may have been in the water for at least two weeks.
Commenting on the tragedy, Chief Inspector David Morris told the Bury Times: "My sympathies go out to Mr Lazurek's family.
"Our search for him proved extremely difficult as there was no obvious area for our officers to look."
