RESIDENTS have been urged to continue to support Bury's fledgling door-to-door waste paper recycling scheme.
Bosses are reminding people that it only takes a few seconds a day to help save the local environment.
The scheme initially proved popular when it was launched last November. Householders can fill a special white bag with their old newspapers, which is collected once a fortnight from outside their doors.
However, Bury Council and the operators of the scheme, Greater Manchester Waste Ltd, say there is much more that could be collected.
Councillor Wayne Campbell, Bury's environment chairman, said: "Hundreds of tonnes of newspapers, magazines and general wastepaper have already been recycled rather than going to landfill sites to be dumped.
"We also believe that our scheme has not adversely affected similar collections which are run by charities, schools or organisations such as the scouts.
"However, we are certain that there is still a large number of homes which are not participating."
Coun Campbell said that new calendars giving collection dates for different parts of the borough were about to be sent out.
