THE next time you walk up Stand Lane listen out for the sweet sound of song because it could be a star in the making.

Television viewers saw Suzanne Shaw learn she had made it as a pop star in her grandmother's Radcliffe home.

And there's another talented singer living just a few doors down.

Jo-An Ramsay has already sampled success singing on the song Control which reached number 17 in the pop charts in 1992.

And she was one of just 25 singers nationwide who made it to the legendary Hackney Empire Theatre's Friday Night Live show.

She was chosen to compete in the first show after impressing audition judges with her version of Whitney Houston's Waiting To Exhale.

Jo-An, a former pupil of Bury Church High School, was up against five other competitors on the night.

She said: "The place was packed but I wasn't too nervous, I've taken part in a lot of competitions.

"It was a bit like Popstars, standing like a duck on the stage for the panel of judges."

Unfortunately, her performance of the old reggae classic Sixth Street did not earn her a place in the next round. But the showbusiness trooper is not downhearted and is already back concentrating on her songwriting.

"I've been singing since I was five and have written more than 200 songs, mostly gospel, R'n'B and soul," she said.
