BOLTON have announced they are to re-lay their pitch after tonight's promotion clash with Lancashire rivals Blackburn Rovers at the Reebok.
Following recent criticism over the state of the playing surface, Wanderers officials have been in contact with Lincoln-based turf specialist P.S.D.
And they have now decided to gamble on tearing the existing surface up after tonight's match in a bid to boost their promotion prospects.
"The pitch is not doing us any favours so we are going to get it re-turfed," said Bolton boss Sam Allardyce.
Wanderers considered re-laying as a possible option earlier in the season but decided against it.
However, the pitch has now deteriorated further which has co-incided with the team drawing their last three home games.
And after tonight, the Wanderers won't be in action again at the Reebok until March 10th when they entertain Gillingham, thus giving the new surface time to 'bed-in'.
However, Rovers boss Graeme Souness will not blame the state of the surface if his side slip to defeat.
"If you're going to be successful in life -- not just in football -- then you've got to learn to adapt to certain circumstances and just get on with it," said Souness.
"At the end of the day, it's the same for both teams."
