THE regeneration of Nelson and Brierfield could take another huge step forward if a bid for £3million by Pendle Partnership is successful.

The group is already planning where to spend the £12million it won last year and is hoping to gain a further grant from the Northwest Development Agency.

The partnership is also backing a bid for £7.6million for a new government scheme focusing on neighbourhood regeneration.

An action plan has been created for the £12million cash already received, which is aimed at improving the SRB6 area including Brierfield and the wards of Bradley and Whitefield in Central Nelson.

It will focus on many things, such as increasing the skill levels of residents and improving their job prospects, helping local people set up in business, improving the health of residents, building 150 new houses and improving 300 homes, reducing crime, drug use and racial harassment.

The final action plan will be sent to the Northwest Development Agency for approval at the end of March with the first new projects planned for April.
