A MAN who was evacuated to Great Harwood during the Second World War is on the look-out for his friends from the town.

Phil Jenkins, of Wilmslow, was evacuated to the relative safety of Great Harwood from Manchester in 1939 and stayed for two years.

The pensioner, who was nine when he was sent to Great Harwood, says he has many happy memories of his time in the area.

He is now hoping to meet up with some of the friends he at the time, some of which would have attended the town school in Ash Street.

Phil said: "I lived at 106 Princess Street and lived with the Bagshaw family.

"It was a very happy time for me and I often come back with my sister to show her the place.

"Unfortunately the River Calder, which I loved so much, isn't as clean as it used to be."

Phil is particularly keen to make contact with Bobby Shorrocks or Gladys Bagshaw.

If you remember Phil or can help him, call him on 01625 585933.
