THE family of Clitheroe Scots Guard Martin Rimmer, who died in his barracks near Buckingham Palace on February 11, can go ahead and hold his funeral with full military honours.

The second inquest hearing was opened yesterday and adjourned pending test results.

The family, however, was told it could start to make the funeral arrangements.

The date and place are now believed to be St Michael and St John's RC Church, in Clitheroe, at 2pm on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old soldier's body was held in the Westminster Mortuary after an initial post mortem examination proved inconclusive.

Toxicology tests were ordered, though these have still not been completed.

It is thought the guard died after a drinking binge with colleagues from his 1st Battalion regiment while off duty.

The date for the inquest will be announced when all the tests have been completed.
