BURNLEY were today seething over Ian Cox's call-up to the Trinidad and Tobago squad which has forced him out of tomorrow's clash with Hudderfield -- while striker Dwight Yorke has got the all-clear to play for Manchester United on Sunday.

FIFA ordered the Clarets to release the defender despite the fact manager Stan Ternent thought he had a verbal agreement with the Trinidad and Tobago coach Ian Porterfield that the influential Cox would not miss any Clarets games.

While the 29-year-old flew out yesterday, Yorke has been given permission by the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation to join up with the squad following United's big clash with Arsenal ahead of Trinidad's World Cup qualifier against Jamaica on Wednesday.

"We feel that we could have done with Ian and, with a little bit more co-operation, it could have happened," said Clarets assistant boss Sam Ellis.

"We felt if it could have been done for one (Yorke) it could have been done for another and that is the disappointing part. It does not seem right."

But TTFF president Oliver Camps defended their decision.

"We went to FIFA on the issue and they in turn told Burnley that if he was not released, he would not be able to play for them either.

"In Dwight's case, you have to understand the players' position. He is not in the best situation with his club and if we had made him come it may have gotten worse.

"We feel we have to help him (Yorke) get out of the situation by supporting him.

"The other guys -- Cox and Bristol Rovers midfielder Ronnie Mauge -- are not in that kind of position in their clubs.

"They are stable and we just feel that their managers were taking advantage of us."

Despite the FIFA rule -- which states players must be released five days before a World Cup match -- Ternent was confident that he'd made an agreement with Porterfield that, if Cox attended a training camp last week, he could fly out after Burnley's match with the Terriers.

"I'm a bit naffed off with that Trinidad mob," raged Ternent.

"I'd done a deal with Mr Porterfield that if he went to the training camp he could fly out on Saturday night.

"Now he has reneged on that deal.

"It's something I could do without.

"I trusted him but it just goes to prove you can't trust the man. Ian's been called up and I think it was pre-meditated.

"My concern is Burnley FC but it is difficult to stop someone playing for their country and I didn't want to do that." While Cox is the bad news, the Clarets good news is that Kevin Ball returns to the side to face relegation-threatened Huddersfield after missing the last three games with a flu bug.

It is too soon though for left back Lee Briscoe who is expected to return to full training on Monday following a hamstring injury.

Burnley will choose from: Michopoulos, Thomas, Armstrong, Davis, Little, Weller, Cook, Taylor, Moore, Ball, Branch, Crichton, Payton, Johnrose, Mullin, Mellon, Maylett.

Huddersfield will choose from: Vaesen, Heary, Lucketti, Moses, Jenkins, Smith, Thornley, Holland, Armstrong, Gallen, Facey, Gorre, Margetson, Irons, Sellars, Gray, Dyson.

"This is the only time we will get the full team together. This will give the coach a chance to have a few sessions and a game with the squad before the Jamaica clash.

"But here it is being threatened and if you ask me, it's a lot of rubbish."
