A WOMAN who had an amazing escape from her blazing home is out of intensive care.

Deborah Smith, 26, was unconscious and not breathing when firefighters rescued her from an upstairs bedroom at her home in Lincoln Road, Hindley. She had been overcome by the effects of a fire which is thought to have started in an armchair.

She was given oxygen at the scene by her rescuers who arrived just in time. They had been alerted by telephone operators who traced the emergency call she had made from her mobile phone before she collapsed.

On Wednesday a hospital spokesman said Deborah was on one of the wards at Wigan's Royal Albert Edward Infirmary and improving.
