THE new £750,000 stand for Hilton Park, home of Leigh Centurions and Leigh RMI, is set to be approved next week.

Planning councillors are meeting on Tuesday and are expected to give their backing for the stand at the Glebe Street end.

Members of the development control committee will make a visit to Hilton Park before the meeting.

There have been just six letter of objection from nearby residents who complained of loss of light to their homes and extra traffic problems.

As reported in the Journal, the new stand would have 11 executive boxes to boost revenue and seating for 1424 spectators.

It will be 10 metres high and 65 metres wide.

Planners called the proposals a "significant improvement to a long established stadium".
