LEIGH licence dodgers have been exposed in a new 'league of shame'. The report published by TV Licensing has shown Wigan to be the 27th worst area in the English league with 1,011 licence evaders being caught between July and December last year.

Despite the risk of court action and a £1,000 fine, television owners continue to ignore warnings from TV licensing.

Working from a database which holds details of every address in the country, enquiry officers have severely clamped down on those suspected of licence evading.

Head of field operations for TV Licensing, John Thompson said: " The high number of evaders caught in the area is a tribute to the determination of our enquiry officers to constantly track down licence dodgers."

TV Licensing offer a variety of ways to pay the £104 licence fee.
