A BOOTHSTOWN pupil has painted a first class picture of cat life -- and her work is now on show in the prestigious new Lowry gallery in Salford.

Eight-year-old Amelia Phythian, right, a pupil at the village's Methodist Primary School, was the only Wigan Metro pupil to be placed in the Royal Mail's North West Cats and Dogs Competition which attracted a bumper postbag of more than 6,000 entries.

Although her work was not included in the first three her cat picture and poem was placed in the runner-up section -- and is one of 10 pieces of work on display for a month.

The competition was organised to celebrate the issue of 10 first class cats and dogs special stamps which have recently been issued.

Amelia is pictured with her certificate and work at The Lowry where she helped to launch the set of new stamps.
