READER Alan Charlton from Tyldesley, who during the 1980s made a photographic record of the town's pubs, is keen to see a picture of one which shut in the 60s and was demolished a decade later.
The missing hostelry is the Victoria Inn which was popularly known as "Polly Smith's" and stood at number 15 Blenheim Street, off Elliott Street, in Tyldesley. Modern homes have since been built replacing the terraced row and pub. Two other pubs in the vicinity -- the Church Inn and the Royal Oak (locally known as the Rag) -- survived a little longer than the Vic.
Any information readers have about the Victoria, or photographs they could possibly loan, would be greatly appreciated.
