ENTHUSIASTS for real ale can sample beer made from ... seaweed.
Beer festival organisers in Wigan have dubbed their event 2001 - A Beer Oddity because of the weird and wonderful brews.
Scottish Heather Kelpie made from seaweed is just one of the strange-sounding drinks available.
A record number of beers will be sampled at The 2001 - A Beer Oddity festival marking Wigan's 14th beer festival being held at Mill at the Pier from March 8 to 10.
There will be 47 different real ales, bottle beers and real ciders for enthusiasts to enjoy during the three days.
Those familiar with the festival can also expect the old favourites and "normal" golden bitters as well as the oddities. And there will be live entertainment from Alligator Joe on Thursday, March 8, and The Chas Hooper Band and Street Level will entertain on Saturday, March 10.
There will be free admission to the festival on Friday afternoon, March 9.
Admission is free to CAMRA members.
