WIGAN and Leigh Hospice is looking for thousands of people and places to take part in the biggest penalty shoot-out on the globe.

The Hindley-based hospice is hoping that the event, Going for Goal, will lead to a new place in the Guinness Book of Records. The hospice has teamed up with five other North-west havens for the terminally ill, Wigan Athletic Football Club and Barclays to organise what it is hoped will become a successful and annual fund raiser. Leigh's Spinning Gate Centre was first to sign up from this side of the borough, but numerous extra venues and competitors are needed to join in and strike out in the simultaneous sponsored penalty taking event.

Schools, colleges, business and clubs are invited to register for the attempt which kicks off at 1.30pm on March 30. Wigan and Leigh Hospice appeals officer, Brian Halliwell, said: "We are actively recruiting new venues. Taking part is easy and fun to set up." Registration is free and sponsorship forms are available from the hospice. For further information contact Julie Dennis or Brian on 01942 525566.
