DAFFODILS symbolise the coming of Spring and also the excellent work done by Marie Curie Cancer Care. Saturday, March 10 is annual Daffodil Day when people are asked to donate money to Marie Curie Cancer Care and also to give up a couple of hours of their time to promote the appeal.

Fund raising assistant Ruth Livesey explained: "Cancer in this country is on the increase. One out of every three people in this country will develop it at some time in their life and one in every four will die from it, a fact that makes us realise how easily we or members of our families could be affected. In a perfect world there would be enough to provide the care needed for cancer patients but unfortunately we do not live in a perfect world. However everyone can make a difference by supporting their local Marie Curie nurses by giving an even greater gift -- their time."

Anyone willing to lend support on March 10 should contact Ruth on 01257 450555 or write to: Marie Curie Cancer Care, 5 New Mill Street, Eccleston, Chorley, PR7 5SZ.

Volunteers who give two hours of their time can raise an average £75 -- enough to provide 10 hours of nursing care in the community.
