By Andy Neild BLACKBURN fans started to dream of a Premiership return last night after rampant Rovers thumped promotion rivals Bolton Wanderers 4-1 at the Reebok.

Goals from Marcus Bent, David Dunn, Matt Jansen and Craig Hignett slashed Wanderers lead to just four points in the race for second spot.

But Rovers boss Graeme Souness quickly brought his players back down to earth today by ordering them in for extra training after insisting the hard work has only just begun.

"We've had a really good week and we've just come through a very difficult period of five away games," said Souness.

"So we'll enjoy the moment but the hard work is still ahead of us.

"Bolton worked hard to stop us from playing and they showed us a lot of respect by playing 4-5-1.

"But in the second half we found another gear and played some terrific football.

"We dominated it after the break and the only disappointing thing was giving that goal away.

"But you can't have everything.

"What you saw in the second half is what we have threatened to do to most teams this season.

"Our biggest problem has been we have not been scoring enough goals but we put that right here."

With two games in hand on arch-rivals Wanderers, Rovers' destiny now lies in their own hands.

But Souness won't entertain talk that his team are favourites to join Fulham in the top-flight next season.

"I don't talk about favourites because I don't gamble so I don't know what that means," said Souness. "What I do know is we've taken three points off one of our main rivals and, if we show the same desire, then we have a chance."

England boss Sven Goran Eriksson was in the crowd to watch a second half onslaught led by Dunn and Jansen.

However, Souness refused to be drawn on what the performance will have done for the pair's future international prospects.

"I'm a Scot so I'm not really interested in England.

"I'm just interested in Blackburn Rovers and we've got some good, talented youngsters at the club.

"If they keep wanting to learn then they'll get even better." Flitcroft: This makes up for sending off LAST night's Reebok victory was particularly sweet for Rovers skipper Garry Flitcroft who got sent off after just nine minutes of last week's FA Cup tie between the two sides.

"This has made up for last week," said Flitcroft.

"I thought we were excellent in the second half and it just shows we do want promotion and we do want that second spot.

"The first half was just a battle but we know we can mix it as well as play football because that's what the gaffer has instilled in us.

"It's a massive boost to win here but I'm sure Sam will gather his troops together now and get them ready for Fulham next week.

"That's a huge game for them now but so is ours against West Brom.

"But at least it's in our own hands now."

Flitcroft came in for criticism from Bolton boss Sam Allardyce before the game over his comments regarding last week's sending off.

However, the Rovers skipper has refused to get drawn into a slanging match, preferring instead to let his boots do the talking.

"I don't want to say too much about that because I'm not the type of person who goes blabbing his mouth off," said Flitcroft.

"Sam lives near me so I don't really want to have a go at him."
