IAN Moore hopes his strike partnership with loan man Gareth Taylor is a dream team for Burnley.

Both are staking a claim for a regular starting place, battling with 14-goal top scorer Andy Payton who has spent the last two games on the bench.

"Gareth is excellent for me. He is good to play with, a target man, who holds the ball up," said Moore who slotted home his third goal of the season in the 2-1 win over Fulham on Tuesday.

But the 24-year-old is disappointed with his tally for the Clarets so far since his £1.1m move from Stockport in November.

"I would have liked to score a few more goals.

"I haven't had that many, and I'm disappointed not to be scoring as that is my job.

"I guess the pressure is always on as Burnley have not spent that kind of money before.

"I was disappointed not to get a goal at Grimsby last Saturday as I missed a few chances but on Tuesday I felt things could work quite well for me.

"That's why I was delighted to get a goal and hopefully there is more to come."

Moore latched onto Taylor's downward header to score the opener against the Cottagers -- although Taylor, on a month's loan from Manchester City, said it was going in anyway.

"I had to put it in just in case it was going wide, even though it might have already been crossing the line," smiled Moore.

"I felt we did deserve it.

"You want to beat the league leaders more than any other team, although I would also like to beat Blackburn!

"It has now given the lads a lot more confidence."

The Fulham win broke a run of three successive defeats and Moore is just hoping it's the turning point for him and Burnley.

"During the bad run, I just felt if we kept playing the way we were a goal would come.

"I do have confidence in my own ability and I know I can score goals in this division."

And he's delighted that the crowd are responding to his battling qualities.

"It is nice to hear them shouting my name.

"I hope I score a few more goals then they can sing it even more!"

Meanwhile Burnley boss Stan Ternent is still weighing up how his side can lose to the likes of Grimsby and Crewe but do so well against Fulham.

"It is as Jimmy Greaves says a 'funny old game' and better people than me have tried to solve all the problems and never come up with the answers," said Ternent.

"That's why it is so frustrating. "To be fair before that I thought we had been playing quite well without getting a reasonable rub of the green, but the other night we beat them fair and square.

"And they are, without a doubt, the best team in the division."

Ternent is looking forward to welcoming Lee Briscoe back to the side.

He has been sidelined since November with initially a gashed leg and then a hamstring injury.

"He will resume full training next week but I'll leave it up to him. We'll not push him.

"He was running hard last week and there doesn't seem to be a reaction so hopefully he'll resume full training on Monday."
