A ROAD had to be closed because of the danger of flying glass and water as firefighters tackled a blaze at a terrace house in Hurtley Street, Burnley.

The fire started in the downstairs front living room, which was gutted, and a bedroom directly above it was severely damaged.

There was also damage by smoke to the rest of the house, which was empty at the time.

Station officer Nick Isherwood said: "When we got there we were told it was thought that someone was inside. It turned out there wasn't anyone in the house, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

"We asked for the road to be closed because there was glass flying around from the upstairs window."

Smoke spread into two rooms in the house next door.
