HUDDERSFIELD Town manager Lou Macari blamed a "crazy five minutes" for the defeat that keeps his side stuck in the First Division relegation zone.

The Terriers were sunk by a Steve Davis goal early in the second half as Burnley came flying out of the blocks after the interval to make it back-to-back wins for the first time since early December. "We went to sleep for five minutes when we lost the goal and that's something we haven't done for a long time.

"When you're away from home, somewhere like Burnley, you need to get that first goal," admitted Macari, whose side is now without a League win since Boxing Day. However, the little Scot believes the Yorkshiremen showed enough of a fightback to have possibly pinched a point and to suggest that they can climb away from danger.

He added: "It was a crazy five minutes but the good thing was the response.

"They realised they had fallen asleep and tried to rectify it, and that gives us hope. I must say I was pleased with the response from them after the goal.

"They could have felt sorry for themselves and ended up going down without a fight but they kept going forward and were a bit unfortunate not to nick a goal.

"But when you are down there that's the way it goes for you."

Macari pointed to late headers from Delroy Facey and then Chris Lucketti as potential point-savers. But Facey's effort was glanced wide and then with virtually the last touch of the game, Lucketti was denied by the agility of Clarets keeper Nik Michopoulos.

"Chris thought the conditions took the sting off the ball but give credit to him, it was a good save," said the Town boss.
