IAN Cox looks certain to win his second cap for Trinidad and Tobago in their World Cup qualifier against Jamaica tomorrow.
The Burnley defender, who missed the Clarets victory over Huddersfield on Saturday after linking up with the Trinidad squad, played a full game in a comfortable 3-0 win over the Caymen Islands in preparation for the clash against the Reggae Boyz.
And he is widely tipped to start the game for Ian Porterfield's men -- teaming up with Manchester United's on fire striker Dwight Yorke.
Cox's call-up has been full of controversy because Burnley manager Stan Ternent said he had a verbal agreement with Porterfield that the 29-year-old wouldn't miss any of his club's games.
However, Cox was called-up on Friday while Yorke was given permission by Trinidad to play in United's 6-1 hammering of Arsenal on Sunday.
But Cox, who put his international career on hold for a year while he established himself at Turf Moor following his move from Bournemouth, will feel it's been worth while if he starts for his country tomorrow.
"It is very difficult stopping a player playing for his country if he wants to. It's the greatest honour he can have," said Ternent.
Meanwhile, Burnley target Eddie Howe has aroused the interest of several Premiership sides.
Ipswich, Southampton and Middlesbrough are said to be watching the former England under 21 defender.
The Clarets tabled a bid -- thought to be £600,000 -- for the 23-year-old around ten days ago but the Cherries wanted more money.
"Nothing has happened since last week," explained Clarets chairman Barry Kilby.
"We put in a bid for him and our valuations didn't meet.
"If others are willing to pay more, that's up to them but that is not our valuation of him."
And trialist Paul Bernard will get another chance to impress Ternent tomorrow night when he turns out for the reserves at West Brom in the Avon Insurance Premier League.
The former Scottish international midfielder, who cost Aberdeen £1m from Oldham in 1995, came to Burnley last week for a short trial and caught the Clarets chief's eye in last week's reserve encounter against Bolton.
"We are just having a look at him. We have a look at a few but he did well," said Ternent. Bernard is out of contract in the summer.
The Burnley boss though will now have his mind focused on is now four away trips, starting with Portsmouth on Saturday, as they look to record their first win on their travels since October.
And he's keen to point out that if Burnley keep performing well, they can get rid of their travel sickness.
The Burnley chief said: "There has never been a problem for me in travelling away from home.
"Only at Preston, when funnily enough we were winning 1-0 and lost, have we not done ourselves justice.
"Other than that, we have deserved something out of most matches we have played -- although I am a bit biased!
"But we lost to the last kick of the match at Barnsley and it could have been 10-each at Crewe.
"Then at Grimsby we shot ourselves in the foot and lost 1-0.
"We've played well enough but just not had a break and there's a very thin dividing line between winning and losing."
He continued: "But we've never lost faith and the overall objective this year was always to maintain our First Division status and we are well on our way to doing that.
"There are some people who say that is under achieving and I know where they are coming from.
"But with the financial implications and with everything that is going on with the transfer market at the moment, you have to be a bit careful.
"The club is making progress and we are on the right lines."
