THIRTEEN people died and dozens more were injured, many seriously, after an horrific 125mph train crash in North Yorkshire.
A Land Rover and trailer careered off an icy motorway bridge into the path of a high-speed InterCity train travelling at 125mph.
The locomotive was derailed and moments later ploughed into an oncoming freight train.
Eyewitnesses said the scene was one of utter devastation.
Police said 70 people had been taken to hospital - and about 30 of them were seriously injured.
The driver of the Land Rover was said to have miraculously survived.
The crash happened at about 6.20am at Great Heck, near Selby, North Yorks, on the East Coast main line.
The InterCity train involved was the 0445 Newcastle to London King's Cross service with up to 120 passengers on board. All nine coaches of the GNER train were derailed in the crash.
Horribly mangled carriages were flung into nearby fields by the force of the impact.
