A MUSICAL with attitude is set to hit the stage in Clitheroe at the beginning of April with a 50-strong cast of talented and enthusiastic dancers and singers.
An 'L' of a Do! was created by Gladys Sutcliffe, who runs a theatre and dance school at her St James' home, in Clitheroe. The "moralitical satire" -- as she calls it -- has been penned almost entirely by herself, with additions by director Margaret Smith and Theresa Robson, both from the town.
Mrs Sutcliffe wrote all the original songs and music which, she says, contain a hidden message.
The idea came to her after she experienced problems in her life.
"There are messages within the musical but if people do not see them they will instead see a brilliant display of acting, dancing and singing and enjoy the whole show," she said. Many months of work have gone into the production, which is to be staged at the town's Grand Cinema on March 31 and April 2,3,4 and 5. Tickets are expected to cost around £4 and £6 with all the proceeds being split between the East Lancashire Hospice Appeal and a fund in memory of Kenneth MacMillan, a singer from Clitheroe who died last year from a rare form of stomach cancer.
A group of people are hoping to fund a recording studio in the new Grand Cinema complex, which will be named after him. Several fund-raising events have already been carried out but it is hoped the musical will take the project much further forward.
