Penrith 0 West Park 31
WINTERS Park has always been an awkward ground to visit, especially in the season which bears its name, but West Park took full advantage of playing with the chill wind at their backs in the first half to build up a 26-point half-time advatage.
Skipper Sean Fletcher took full advantage of a break by Phil Houlton to open the scoring, followed by a Martin Strett touchdown after good work by Chris O'Toole and Neil Ryan.
Steve Bibby scattered three tacklers from a tap penalty to put O'Toole over, Phil Lawrenson adding his third conversion. Then Houlton went over for an unconverted try after Ryan had been held up over the line.
Despite a number of disruptions to their line-up after the break, Park were never in any danger and increased their total when prop Carl Wales drove over from a line-out close to the home line.
In spite of all the enforced changes Park's defence in the last quarter was as solid as a rock with O'Toole, Houlton and vice-captain Chris Pennington adding to their already glowing reputations.
Park revert to cup rugby this weekend with a Sunday Lancs Trophy 3rd round tie at Tyldesley.
Other results: Penrith 2nd 25 West Park 8, West Park 3rd 24 Sedgley Park 10, Leigh u/13s 19 West Park 27.
