Prescot Cables 6 Cheadle Town 1

PRESCOT got their title bid back on course with this comfortable success, their second victory in the space of three days.

It took Cables just seven minutes to unlock the Cheadle defence when Jensen's pace took him past a line of defenders to collect a pass by Taylor and lift the ball over keeper Bibby's despairing dive.

And it was 2-0 after 16 minutes when a half-cleared corner fell to Taylor just outside the area and the midfielder volleyed the ball into the roof of the net.

At this stage it was one-way traffic as first Hughes and Warder created an opening for Taylor, whose 22-yard chipped shot just cleared the bar; then Taylor beat the off-side trap but pulled his shot wide as Bibby came out to narrow the angle.

O' Callaghan shot wide ater good work by Garforth and Jensen but it was no surprise when Prescot increased their lead on 29 minutes when Warder stole in to head home from close range.

However, Cheadle were thrown a lifeline when an attempted back header left Presco's debutant keeper McMahon exposed and he was adjudged to have brought down Lindsey as they both went for the loose ball. McDonald converted the resultant penalty on 37 minutes.

Prescot had a number of chances to increase their lead before the break, with Riley and Jensen both heading against the bar and Taylor having a header blocked on the line then slicing a shot wide. O'Callaghan also went close twice from Jensen breaks.

Three minutes into the second half though O'Callaghan finally got on to the scoresheet. Jensen provided the perfect ball and although his first shot was parried by Bibby, O'Callaghan made no mistake with the rebound.

Prescot took their foot off the pedal at this stage allowing Cheadle to come more into the game with Lindsey and Garside both having shots on target.

In the closing minutes Prescot changed up a gear and Garforth put Jensen through to steer the ball home for their fifth.

Then O'Neil completed the scoring after a quickly-taken free kick left him in the clear.
