AN angry father has accused St Helens Council of ignoring the dangers posed by discarded syringes.

John Donlon contacted the local authority after discovering two used hypodermic needles in the garden of his council home in Queens Drive, Newton-le-Willows.

He says he immediately reported the incident to St Helens Council and was told to put the needles into a box and a council representative would call round to examine them.

But that was nearly a month ago and John says he is still waiting for someone to call!

When the council failed to attend, he then contacted the Environmental Health Department and says he was told they could not deal with the matter because the needles had been found on council property.

John told the Star: "This is a real concern because I have got a young baby and I am worried what might happen if this continues. I've been waiting for almost a month now and the council still has not done anything about it".

A spokesperson for St Helens Council said that they had no record of the original complaint, but said that they would send someone out immediately to Mr Donlon's property to deal with the problem.
