Charities and community organisations in St Helens have the chance to receive a big helping hand as the B&Q 'You Can Do It' Awards 2001 are launched on March 1.
The awards aim to regenerate local areas, giving new life to buildings and landscapes used by local community organisations. Twenty grants of £5,000 worth of B&Q products are to be given away to enable community groups across the country to improve their facilities.
Groups within the St Helens area that feel they would benefit from a colourful revamp are encouraged to apply. Community based organisations, such as schools, disability, environmental and youth groups and charities are eligible. The planned renovation work must be completed in the month of August 2001.
B&Q's chief executive, Bill Whiting, said: "The B&Q 'You Can Do It' Awards form just one element of the company's commitment to our stores' communities, giving local organisations the chance to embark on DIY projects which can make a real difference to the North West. We want to build on our past achievements and give something back to the communities we serve".
Anyone interested should contact the B&Q hotline number on 0845 300 1001. Alternatively, visit the B&Q 'You Can Do It' Awards page on the B&Q website at http://www.diy.com . The deadline to send in ideas is April 20 .
