MERSEYSIDE Police have joined forces with Safeway in an attempt to promote personal safety and reduce crime throughout St Helens.

The police have organised an innovative leaflet campaign and, with the help of the Safeway store in Chalon Way, will ensure that every household in the St Helens area receives a leaflet which offers advice on how to stop people from becoming victims of crime.

Every week Safeway delivers special offer leaflets to approximately 50 000 households in the borough and this week there will be an additional leaflet from Merseyside Police offering advice about safety in the home, when out walking, travelling by car and by public transport - but that's not all.

The St Helens Community Safety Partnership are hoping to provide free mortice locks, window locks, spyholes and door chains to people who have been victims of crime, or anyone who is more than 60 years of age.

DCI Taffy Williams, said: "This is just one of the continuing initiatives from the Community Safety Partnership and we are pleased to have Safeway involved, which also shows the advantages of partnership working."

While, Councillor Ken Pinder, St Helens Council's Member for the Reduction of Crime and Disorder, said: "This is an excellent idea to promote safety within the community and shows the advantages of partnership working."
